Latin Small Letter C with Cedilla · U+00E7
ç is the lowercase c with a cedilla, the small hook tucked beneath it. The cedilla signals that the c stays soft, like an s, where it would otherwise sound hard. It appears in French (façade), Portuguese, Turkish, Catalan and several other languages. Its code point is U+00E7, and its capital form is Ç. How to type ç
ç is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0231 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — ç appears at the cursor.

Mac
- Press Control + Command + Space to open the Character Viewer.
