How to type P with accent
Accented forms of P are not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for them. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type the four-digit code on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — the accented letter appears at the cursor.
Tip: Forms without an Alt code (like ṕ) have no keypad shortcut — in Word, type the code point from the table above and press Alt+X. No numeric keypad at all? Press Win + . for the emoji panel (Symbols tab), or copy the letter straight from this page.
Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type the letter p; the two combine into ṕ (and its siblings).
Tip: The press-and-hold pop-up has no accented forms of P, so the Option combinations above are the keyboard route — or copy the letter straight from this page.
iPhone & Android
- Long-press pop-ups on iPhone, iPad and Android don't cover accented forms of P (on iOS, only b, f, j, m, p, q, v and x lack a menu).
- Fastest route on a phone: tap the þ card above to copy it, then long-press the text field and choose Paste.
Tip: Every accented form of P is quickest to copy straight from this page — tap a card, then paste.
