How to type J with accent
Accented forms of J are not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for them. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point of the letter — 0135 for ĵ.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the accented letter in place.
Tip: No accented form of J has a classic Windows Alt code. Outside Word, press Win + . to open the emoji panel and look under its Symbols tab — or copy the letter straight from this page, which is fastest of all.
Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type the letter j; the two combine into ĵ (and its siblings).
Tip: The press-and-hold pop-up has no accented forms of J, so the Option combinations above are the keyboard route — or copy the letter straight from this page.
iPhone & Android
- Long-press pop-ups on iPhone, iPad and Android don't cover accented forms of J (on iOS, only b, f, j, m, p, q, v and x lack a menu).
- Fastest route on a phone: tap the ĵ card above to copy it, then long-press the text field and choose Paste.
Tip: Every accented form of J is quickest to copy straight from this page — tap a card, then paste.
