How to type ń

ń is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:

Windows

ń
0144thenAltX
  1. In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 0144 for ń.
  2. Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.

Tip: ń has no classic Windows Alt code. Outside Word, press Win + . to open the emoji panel and look under its Symbols tab — or copy the character straight from this page, which is fastest of all.

Mac

ń
OptionEthenn
  1. Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
  2. Type n; the two combine into ń.

Tip: Easier still: press and hold the n key itself and a pop-up offers ń — type the number shown under it.

iPhone & Android

ń
npress & hold
  1. On an iPhone or iPad, press and hold the n key on the on-screen keyboard.
  2. A pop-up row of accented versions appears — slide your finger to ń and release.

Tip: The pop-up row comes from the letter’s long-press menu on the iPhone’s English (US) keyboard (iOS 17+); Gboard and other Android keyboards offer similar menus, though the exact set varies.

Copy-paste is a typing method too — every accented form of N copies in one click on the N with accent page, alongside the full typing guides.

Customize ń
