É is the capital E with an acute accent. It appears wherever French words with é begin a sentence or a proper noun, and Spanish and Portuguese write it the same way. How to type É
É is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0201 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — É appears at the cursor.
