Latin Capital Letter E with Macron · U+0112
Ē is the capital E with a macron, the flat line marking a long vowel. Latvian writes ē as a regular alphabet letter, Māori and Hawaiian use macron vowels too, and in Hanyu Pinyin Ē marks Mandarin's first tone on E. How to type Ē
Ē is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 0112 for Ē.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.
