Latin Small Letter E with Macron · U+0113
ē is the small letter e with a macron, the flat line that marks a long vowel. Latvian writes it as a regular letter of the alphabet, and Māori and Hawaiian use macron vowels as well. In Hanyu Pinyin ē marks Mandarin's first tone. Its code point is U+0113, and its capital form is Ē (U+0112). How to type ē
ē is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 0113 for ē.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.
Tip: ē has no classic Windows Alt code. Outside Word, press Win + . to open the emoji panel and look under its Symbols tab — or copy the character straight from this page, which is fastest of all.
Mac
- Press Control + Command + Space to open the Character Viewer.
