Latin Capital Letter Y with Acute · U+00DD
Ý is the capital Y with an acute accent. It belongs to the Czech, Slovak and Icelandic alphabets, where it stands for a long vowel sound, and Vietnamese also uses it for the sắc (rising) tone on a capital Y. How to type Ý
Ý is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0221 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — Ý appears at the cursor.

- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
