Latin Small Letter L with Stroke · U+0142
ł is the lowercase l with a stroke through it, best known as a letter of the Polish alphabet, where it stands for a sound close to English w. It is a precomposed character with the code point U+0142 in the Latin Extended-A block. Its uppercase form is Ł. How to type ł
ł is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 0142 for ł.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.
Tip: ł has no classic Windows Alt code. Outside Word, press Win + . to open the emoji panel and look under its Symbols tab — or copy the character straight from this page, which is fastest of all.
Mac
- Press Control + Command + Space to open the Character Viewer.
