Ŝ is the capital S with a circumflex, the small hat-shaped mark above the letter. In Esperanto it stands for the "sh" sound, appearing at the start of words and names where a capital letter is needed. It is the uppercase partner of ŝ, and its code point is U+015C. How to type Ŝ
Ŝ is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 015C for Ŝ.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.
