h diaeresis
Latin Small Letter H with Diaeresis · U+1E27
ḧ is the lowercase h with a diaeresis, the pair of dots above a letter also known as an umlaut. It is encoded at U+1E27 in the Latin Extended Additional block as a precomposed character — a single code point, not an h plus combining dots. Its uppercase counterpart is Ḧ (U+1E26). Click the tile to copy ḧ, then paste it anywhere with Ctrl+V (Windows), Cmd+V (Mac) or a long-press → Paste on a phone.

How to type ḧ
ḧ is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- In Microsoft Word, type the hexadecimal code point — 1E27 for ḧ.
- Press Alt+X: the code converts into the character in place.
Tip: ḧ has no classic Windows Alt code. Outside Word, press Win + . to open the emoji panel and look under its Symbols tab — or copy the character straight from this page, which is fastest of all.
Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type h; the two combine into ḧ.
Tip: The press-and-hold pop-up has no shortcut for this exact form, so the Option combination above is the keyboard route — or copy the character straight from this page.
iPhone & Android
- Long-press pop-ups on iPhone, iPad and Android don't cover ḧ.
- Fastest route on a phone: tap the big ḧ tile above to copy it, then long-press the text field and choose Paste.
Tip: Copying from this page works on every phone — no keyboard settings needed.
Copy-paste is a typing method too — every accented form of H copies in one click on the H with accent page, alongside the full typing guides.
