U diaeresis
Latin Capital Letter U with Diaeresis · U+00DC
Ü is the capital U with a diaeresis. In German it is the umlaut Ü, a distinct vowel sound, and Turkish uses it the same way. In Spanish the diaeresis instead shows that the u is pronounced, as in pingüino. It sits at code point U+00DC, and its lowercase form is ü (U+00FC). Click the tile to copy Ü, then paste it anywhere with Ctrl+V (Windows), Cmd+V (Mac) or a long-press → Paste on a phone.

How to type Ü
Ü is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0220 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — Ü appears at the cursor.
Tip: No numeric keypad? Press Win + . for the emoji panel (Symbols tab), or copy the character straight from this page.
Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type Shift+U; the two combine into Ü.
Tip: The press-and-hold pop-up has no shortcut for this exact form, so the Option combination above is the keyboard route — or copy the character straight from this page.
iPhone & Android
- Tap Shift first, then press and hold the u key on the on-screen keyboard.
- A pop-up row of capital accented versions appears — slide your finger to Ü and release.
Tip: The pop-up row comes from the letter’s long-press menu on the iPhone’s English (US) keyboard (iOS 17+); Gboard and other Android keyboards offer similar menus, though the exact set varies.
Copy-paste is a typing method too — every accented form of U copies in one click on the U with accent page, alongside the full typing guides.
Customize Ü
Style the symbol your way — pick colors, size and shape, then copy the HTML snippet or download a square PNG/SVG (transparent background supported).
