Latin Small Letter I with Acute · U+00ED
í is the letter i with an acute accent, the small slanting stroke above it. It is common in Spanish, Portuguese, Czech, Slovak, Hungarian and Icelandic, where it usually marks a stressed or long i. It also carries the Vietnamese sắc tone and the second tone of Mandarin in Hanyu Pinyin. Its capital form is Í (U+00CD). How to type í
í is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0237 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — í appears at the cursor.

Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type i; the two combine into í.
