i grave
Latin Small Letter I with Grave · U+00EC
ì is the letter i with a grave accent, the stroke that leans to the left above it. Italian uses it in words like lunedì to mark a stressed final vowel, and Vietnamese writes its huyền tone with the same mark. In Hanyu Pinyin it shows the falling fourth tone of Mandarin. Its capital form is Ì (U+00CC). Click the tile to copy ì, then paste it anywhere with Ctrl+V (Windows), Cmd+V (Mac) or a long-press → Paste on a phone.

How to type ì
ì is not printed on most English keyboards, but every device hides a shortcut for it. Pick your platform:
Windows
- Turn on Num Lock so the numeric keypad produces digits.
- Hold Alt, type 0236 on the numeric keypad, then release Alt — ì appears at the cursor.
Tip: No numeric keypad? Press Win + . for the emoji panel (Symbols tab), or copy the character straight from this page.
Mac
- Press the Option combination for the accent — a highlighted accent mark appears, waiting.
- Type i; the two combine into ì.
Tip: Easier still: press and hold the i key itself and a pop-up offers ì — type the number shown under it.
iPhone & Android
- On an iPhone or iPad, press and hold the i key on the on-screen keyboard.
- A pop-up row of accented versions appears — slide your finger to ì and release.
Tip: The pop-up row comes from the letter’s long-press menu on the iPhone’s English (US) keyboard (iOS 17+); Gboard and other Android keyboards offer similar menus, though the exact set varies.
Copy-paste is a typing method too — every accented form of I copies in one click on the I with accent page, alongside the full typing guides.
